Skiathos island

Skiathos with its 6.100 inhabitants is part of the Northern Sporades and is the 2nd biggest island (47 km2) located in the northwest Aegean Sea. Together with the islands Skopelos, Skyros and Alonissos they make the Sporades island group (Sporades - the scattered islands) - maybe most famous for the filming of the movie Mamma Mia

They are also known as the green islands of Greece with its diversity of nature which is surrounded with over 60 wonderful beaches and filled with curved roads and green nature full of Aleppo pine trees and hillsides. Just to drive around the island is a beauty in itself. Some of the island´s many dirt-roads can only be managed by a 4-wheel drive, quad or scooter but are well worth a visit. Maybe to the ancient city of Kastro.

The only real city of Skiathos is an amazing mix of a beautiful view towards Skopelos, the port with all its boat traffic, a mill on a hilltop, fantastic restaurants, bars, cozy allies, boutiques and discotheques. Just big enough to cover your vacation needs and yet as wonderful and scenic that Greece can be. Historical sites are Kastro and the Evangelistria Monastery.
